LBB Photo Lois Bryant lives and maintains a studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  She designs and produces one-of-a-kind weavings for exhibitions and site-specific installations.  She works in other media as well, such as computer graphics, hand painting on fabric, and collage.  Bryant recently taught intermediate and advanced textiles at Eastern Michigan University and advanced fibers and perception at the University of Michigan.

 

Bryant’s weavings are in the permanent collections of the National Museum of Design/Cooper-Hewitt Museum/Smithsonian Institution, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Liz Claiborne stores, United Airlines, and other corporate and residential collections.

Bryant was introduced to weaving at an early age at Cranbrook Kingswood School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.  She received her Bachelor's from Brown University and a Masters from the Rhode Island School of Design.  She spent 24 years living and working in New York City and vicinity, furthering her knowledge of weaves by studying antique damask and lampas fabrics in the collection of the Cooper-Hewitt Museum/Smithsonian.  She taught weaving and computer-aided surface design at the Parsons the New School for Design.
